Wisconsin Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug Coverage
In addition to the basic benefits provided by Medicare Parts A and B, many Wisconsin Medicare Advantage plans offer prescription drug coverage for the costs of prescriptions taken at home.
These are referred to as "MA-PD" plans.
Each plan has a list of covered drugs, called a "formulary", which separates drugs into tiers that determine their cost.
For many seniors, prescription drugs represent a large percentage of their out-of-pocket medical cost.
The prescription drug coverage in a Medicare Advantage plan can help reduce this expense.
Points to consider:
- When choosing a Medicare Advantage plan that includes prescription drug coverage, always check the formulary to make sure your medications are covered under that plan.
- As with stand alone drug plans, an MA-PD may or may not have a drug deductible, and the co-insurance amounts in drug tiers can vary under different plans offered by the same insurance company.
- If traveling, contact your agent or insurance company to be sure of a participating pharmacy in the area in which you are staying.
Medicare Advantage plans that include prescription drug coverage can help you lower your out-of pocket costs for medications.
